Some photos from our 2002 trip to Tibet...

Steve and Anneke
Anneke and myself at the summit of the Langma La pass (5330m) on our way into the Kangshung glacier.  The Makalu massif is in the background: Makalu (8481m), Jomolonzo (7804m) and Lhamalangcho (7565m).

Steve at summit
Self portrait: Exhausted but thrilled by the view at the top of Langma La (5330m) with Makalu in cloud to the left and Peak 38, Lhotse and the East (Kangshung) Face of Everest to the right.

North Face Sunset
Sunrise, noon and sunset on the North Face of Everest.
(The famous "Yellow Band" of rock is clearly visible in the sunset shot).

North Face Sunset
The Kanshung (East) Face of Everst, with the South East Ridge (left) summit (center), and North East Ridge (center, right) of Everest as seen from the Kangshung glacier. The South Col is just visible through cloud at bottom left. The South Summit is the prominant notch on the South East Ridge, with Hillary's Step just discernable to the right. The Second Step is clearly identifiable as a notch, just to the right of center, more or less symetric with the South Summit.

Makalu massif
The Makalu massif: Jomolonzo (7804m) and Lhamalangcho (7565m) with Makalu (8481m) lurking in background, early morning after a good overnight snowfall (see the numerous avalanche chutes).
