COMP3610:
Principles of Programming Languages
Semester 1, 2005
Principal Lecturer:
Dr. Clem Baker-Finch
Newer News
- Lecture Schedule Change:
I have just noticed that in the published lecture schedule,
there was no lecture 16(!) so we have one more space available
in the 30 lecture sequence. That means that we do have
time for the section on Continuations in the Semantics
notes. I have also decided to move the Review lecture
to the last Friday of the semester. See the schedule for details.

|
- While the second assignment is officially due on 27th May, there
will be no penalty for submissions received by 5pm on Wednesday
1st June, 2005.
- I have posted a short note about types in the fixpoint clauses for
loops, in response to a question in the week 11 tutorial.
Older News
- I have made some minor correction to the abstract interpreters for the
rules of signs.
- I have made some changes to the Semantics of Programming
Languages lecture notes. Pages affected are in the range
pp14-21. I would classify the changes as improvements
rather than corrections. I will hand out hard copies
of the changed pages in class.
- A solution to Exercise 5 of
the Flex and Bison practical class of week 9 is now available.
Of course, I am assuming you have made a serious attempt at the
exercise by now.
- The second assignment has been published
(19th April). It is due at 5pm on Friday 27th May, 2005. You
are encouraged to work in groups of up to three people for this
assignment.
Course Structure
- The
vital details
of comp3610 are to be found in Faculty handbook for 2005

- A comprehensive specification of
comp3610
in the standard department format is available on-line.

There will be a weekly lab class, commencing in week 2:
- Tuesday 10 - 12am in N111
A more detailed schedule is available.
It is only an indicative plan, and subject change.
Assessment Scheme
- There will be two assignments with a combined weight
of 30%. Each will have a fixed deadline and they will be due
during or near weeks 7 and 12 respectively.
- There will be a 3 hour open book final examination
with a weight of 70%.
- Your final mark will be the sum of these two components.
