TPHOLs'98: Weather and Tourism

Weather

Canberra enjoys a variety of weather. At the time of the conference, Canberra will be experiencing Spring, when it can be expected to be cool in the early mornings and late evenings, and warm during the day. Overnight temperatures can be expected to be as low as 5 degrees Celsius, though some nights might get as low as 0 Celsius. Daily maximums are usually in the 15 to 20 degree Celsius range. Winds can sometimes be moderate, but would usually be light. Occasional showers are possible.

ACT Weather Forecasts are issued regularly by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, and include a 3 day outlook.

The Bureau of Meteorology also publishes ANU Climate Averages, which gives rainfall and temperature range averages of readings taken between 1912 and 1939.

Tourism

Spring is the time for Canberra's premier festival, Floriade. It's just one of Canberra's many tourist attractions.

Other information on Canberra is also available.

If you're an international visitor, you may wish to explore Australia before or after TPHOLs'98.

The Monday following the workshop (Monday 5 October 1998) is a public holiday in Canberra, and many other parts of Australia.

Of course, TPHOLs'98 is only two years before the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
