Assessment Task - Learning Portfolio
[35 marks]
Each student will maintain an individual Learning Portfolio.
Students are required to consider each week’s topic within the broader context of systems and software engineering (e.g. other aspects of the course, other courses you are taking at ANU, your workplace and society more broadly).
You should pay particular attention to the panel Q&A sessions – this is where many of the interesting ideas and connections will emerge.
The form of your Learning Portfolio
A Wattle wiki has been setup for each student. You are free to use this wiki or any other technology you consider appropriate (e.g. Google Sites or Prezi) for your Learning Portfolio. You could even use the Wattle wiki to bring together material from a range of external tools. The only constraint is that your tutor and the course convenor must be able to view all external material at any time.
If you choose to use external tools, please ensure that you include URLs to your work on your Wattle Wiki.
Assessment
LPs will be assessed in three stages.
- Stage I
- We will review your learning portfolios at the end of week 5 in order to provide formative feedback.
- 10%
- 1000-1500 words
- Due 1700 Friday, Week 5
- Stage II
- We will review your learning portfolios at the end of week 9 in order to provide formative feedback.
- 20%
- 2000-3000 words
- Due 1700 Friday, Week 9
- Stage III
- At the end of week 12 we will review your entire learning portfolio.
- 5%
- 500-750 words
- Due 1700 Friday, Week 12
Because we encourage students to present an innovative mix of text, pictures, video and other artefacts in their Learning Portfolio (LP), only ball-park word counts are specified above. Instead, part of our assessment will relate to the amount of work each LP represents.
We’re looking for quality, not quantity. Talk to your tutor if you’re going to go over the specified word limits.
Late Policy
- A penalty of 10% of your given mark will be deducted per day for any late work.
- Extensions will only be granted on the basis of medical certificates or equivalent written documentation outlining unforeseen circumstances that make it impossible for you to submit on time – having other work due in other courses at the same time are not adequate grounds for an extension.
Example Work
We hope to publish some of the work of students from last year. We need to get their agreement first.
For now, you can look at some VCUG3001 Learning Portfolios.
Marking criteria
- Demonstration of understanding of the course material
- Reflection on the course material
- Making connections with other courses and with key contemporary aspects fo systems and software engineering.
- Presentation of your ideas, including clarity and conciseness of writing, grammar and quality of diagrams
