COMP3530 and COMP6353
Course Activities
COMP3530/COMP6353 is organised a little differently to other courses you may have taken within the Research School of Computer Science.
While the Study@ANU entry for COMP3530 identifies a series of topics to be covered by the course, we will not be dedicating specific lectures to each one. Instead, each topic will be explored from a range of perspectives through a series of 'Expert Panel' sessions, student facilitated tutorials and Learning Portfolios as depicted in the diagram below (download PDF version).
Weekly Panels
At the beginning of each week, a panel of industry, government and/or academic experts will discuss a specific aspect of systems engineering. These panel sessions will run for 2 hours and will comprise presentations, exercises and whatever else the panelists would like to do, followed by a break and then a Question and Answer session.
Students are required to prepare for each panel session by studying the resources listed on the panel schedule page.
Weekly Tutorials
You are required to attend a two hour tutorial every week. The first two tutorials will be facilitated by the course convenor and your tutor. In weeks 3-12, tutorials will be facilitated by students.
- Week 1: Course administration and assessment, Tutorial facilitation allocation, and 'How to run a tutorial'
- Week 2: Systems Thinking
- Weeks 3-12: Each of these tutorials will be facilitated by two students. Before each tutorial, all other students will be required to post a tutorial ticket in response to instructions posted by your facilitator on the Wattle Tutorial Instructions and Ticket Submission Forum. Detailed Tutorial Facilitation instructions can be found on the Tutorial Facilitation page.
Before each tutorial, you will be required to post a tutorial ticket in response to instructions posted by your facilitator on the Wattle Tutorial Instructions and Ticket Submission Forum..
Assessment Tasks
Throughout the semester, students will be required to complete a number of Assessment Tasks including a final written examination.
