Richard Jones

Richard Jones is Adjunct Professor in Computer Science at the Australian National University. He is currently part-time Chief Scientist of Portland Risk Analytics, the innovative technology company behind the visual search platform Encompass. Throughout the 40+ years since he wrote his first significant computer program as part of his PhD (a program to do his algebra), he has driven the development of leading edge software systems from research concept to full implementation either as an application for a single customer or as a product for multiple sale. He has a particular focus on text-based technologies commencing in the early 1970s with STATUS, one of the first successful text retrieval systems.
