COMP3530 and COMP6353
Assessment Task - Tutorial Facilitation
[25 marks]
During the course, every student is required to facilitate one tutorial. This will be usually undertaken in collaboration with one other student. The tutorial you will facilitate will be allocated during the first tutorial in week 1 (facilitated by a COMP3530 tutor).
Your task in facilitating the tutorial is to maximise your classmate’s learning about the week's panel topic.
Detailed Activities
The following diagram (download as PDF) depicts the activities involved in this assessment task. The diagram also shows the timing of activities. Details of each activity are provided at the end of this page.

Tutorial Facilitation Portfolio [10 marks]
Each pair of facilitators will maintain a Tutorial Facilitation Portfolio in Wattle. This Portfolio must document the following activities:- Preliminary Tutorial Ideas
Planning for your tutorial facilitation begins in the week before your tutorial. Each student is required to add an entry to their Tutorial Facilitation Portfolio outlining ideas for how they would like to run their tutorial. This is to be done individually, and would normally identify the objective of the tutorial, proposed activities and how they address the tutorial objective, required resources and your ideas for stimulating on-line form discussion.
This task must be completed by 1700 on the day before the facilitator's workshop described below.
- Facilitator's Workshop
All tutorial facilitators will meet with Chris Browne for 30-60 minutes at 1400 before the panel session of the week before their tutorial. The purpose of these workshop sessions is to get all the students facilitating the same tutorial together to brainstorm ideas on how to best run the tutorial. It is an opportunity for you to review your own preliminary ideas, gather other ideas and refine plans for your tutorial.
- Meeting with tutor
Facilitators will meet with their tutor for around 30 minutes after the tutorial during the week before their facilitation. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss their approach to the tutorial facilitation with their tutor.
- Tutorial Ticket Instructions
Facilitators will prepare a set of tutorial ticket instructions for students attending the tutorial. For example, students could be asked to watch and comment on a video, or to describe examples of certain ideas in practice. It’s really up to the imagination of the facilitators to get students excited about the tutorial.
The tutorial ticket instructions will be posted to the Wattle Tutorial Instructions and Ticket Submission forum. Students attending the tutorial will post their tickets to the same forum.
- Secret Plan
By 1700 the day before their tutorial facilitation, facilitators are required to post their final tutorial plan the their Tutorial Facilitation Portfolio.
- Reflection
By 1700 of the Friday after the facilitation, the facilitators will write a 300 word reflective piece addressing lessons learned from the facilitation. This reflection is to be done as a team - it is not an individual task.

Your tutorial should run for no longer than 90 minutes.
Remember, your task in facilitating the tutorial is to maximise your classmate’s learning. As part of this, you should cover what was learned from the tickets submitted by students.
