Homeworks ;
Percentage: 15%
Details: 1. best 10 attempts at 12 homework tasks (one per week)
Specific requirements: homework tasks are small programs. Deadlines are tight, no extensions (any special consideration for illness etc. will change the overall marking scheme weighting, not individual deadlines)
Due date: every Monday from week 2 to week 15
Assignment 1
Percentage: 7%
Details: 1. modify an existing medium scale program (7%)
Specific requirements: grade achieved in assignment 1 will determine choice of options for assignment 2: only higher grades will be enabled to do a creation task for assignment 2
Due date: Friday week 6 29 March
Mid Semester Exam ;
Percentage: 5%
Details: in week 6. theoretical material from week 1-5: data structures, version control, testing
Specific requirements: redeemable by better performance in final theory exam
Due date: week 6 Wednesday 27 March12 noon (lecture slot)
Final Exam ( practical 30%, theory 30%)
Percentage: 60%
Details: 1. 2 hour practical exam in computer labs, writing programs derived from homework programs 2. 2 hour written theory exam

assignment 2
Percentage: 13%
Details: 2. major assignment in programming: construct a new, or modify and extend an existing, medium-sized software system (13%)
Specific requirements: selection of create or modify for assignment 2 depends on grade achieved in assignment 1: only higher grades will be enabled to do a creation task for assignment 2
Due date: Friday end of week 11 (13) 17 May
