Assignment 1
Percentage: 7%
Details: major assignment in programming: modify and extend a medium-sized software system
Due date: Friday week 6 29 March
homeworks
Percentage: 10%
Details: best 10 attempts at 12 homework tasks (one per week)
Specific requirements: homework tasks are small programs. Deadlines are tight, no extensions (any special consideration for illness etc. will change the overall marking scheme weighting, not individual deadlines)
Due date: every Monday weeks 2-13
Mid Semester Exam
Percentage: 5%
Details: in week 6. theoretical material from week 1-5: data structures, version control, testing. Redeemable against better performance in final theory exam.
Specific requirements: grade on assignment 1 determines choice for assignment 2
Due date: 12 noon Wednesday 29 March (week 6)
team research presentation
Percentage: 5%
Details: small team research, present and report on an industry-related issue in software engineering or services
Due date: 14 May week 11 (13)
Final Exam (: practical 30%, theory 30%)
Percentage: 60%
Details: 1. 2 hour practical exam in computer labs, writing programs similar to homework programs 2. 2 hour written theory exam

Details: modify and extend existing medium scale program or develop new medium scale program
Specific requirements: only higher student grades in assignment will be permitted to choose the development option for assignment 2
