All assignment and workshop activities will be carried out in small groups of 3-4 students. Individual marks for the 3 assignments will be determined using peer assessment software, WebPAx.
Written, research report on an assigned topic related to the management of software development projects
Percentage: 10%
Details: Students will work in small teams of 3-4 students to produce a briefing note on an allocated topic. The assignment will be completed in two parts: a draft version, on which their peers will provided feedback; and a final version for which they will receive a mark. Individual marks will be determined via peer assessment
Specific requirements: Briefing papers will follow a set format and will be from 5 to a maximum of 8 A4 pages long including references. Diagrams are permitted, but dot points should be used sparingly. Citation and referencing must follow an appropriate standard and be used correctly. Papers are to be delivered in PDF format.
Due date: DRAFT -- week 6 (Thursday 28 March) FINAL -- week 12 (Friday 24 May)
Peer Review of draft briefing note
Percentage: 10%
Details: Groups will review another group's draft briefing note. The briefing note will be on a different topic from the reviewing group's briefing note. Written feedback will be provided via an assessment rubric provided to students. Individual marks will be generated using peer assessment.
Specific requirements: Written feedback will be provided using a supplied "Peer Review Form"
Due date: DUE - week 8 (Friday 26 April)
Presentation
Percentage: 5%
Details: 1 A set of presentation slides presenting key ideas from briefing note 2 Presentation of the slide set to their peers during the final workshop of the semester
Specific requirements: Teams will be required to present to their peers the key findings of their briefing paper. Presentation of 10 minutes followed by 5 minutes for questions. Teams will be allowed a maximum 8 slides, including cover, contents and summary slides.
Due date: DUE - Week 11 (during normal workshop sessions)
Three-hour final written examination
Percentage: 50%
Details: The final exam will cover all topics covered during the course: - lectures - workshops - assignment topics
Specific requirements: Examination will include a combination of: -- multiple choice and/or true false questions -- short answer questions -- short essay questions
Due date: Official examination period for semester 1
Five two-hour Workshops
Percentage: 25%
Details: 1. Workshop preparation and participation: Short pre-workshop on-line quiz, materials created during the workshop session and participation in workshop (10%) 2. 200 word reflection submitted after each workshop (15%)
Due date: Five workshops run from week 3 - week 10. Quizzes are due for completion prior to each workshop and reflection is due within 3 days of completion.
Peer Assessment
Percentage: 0%
Details: Students will be required to submit peer assessment reports on team members for all assignments. Peer assessment will be used to generate individual marks for all 3 assignments
