Topics in Software Engineering III COMP4710

Course overview

Course description

This course is available so that students can pursue, under supervision, topics that are not covered in the regular curriculum.

The activities in the course will be some combination of lectures, reading, writing and project work, as appropriate to the topic. These activities, and the assessment arrangements, will be specified, for each enrolled student, using a Computer Science Department 'Independent Study Contract'.

Rationale

It is sometimes appropriate for a student or a group of students to pursue some technical material that is not part of the course offerings in a particular year but which is deemed part of the Software Engineering body of knowledge.

The common variations on this theme are:

  • A lecture course of about 30 lecture hours, often by a visitor to ANU.
  • A reading/seminar course where the students have responsibilities for active participation.
  • A reading course based on prescribed materials and/or well-defined topic.
