prototype/library/design evaluation
The aim of this report is to explain the preliminary work you did that would help in the development of your groups project. This may include activities such as: developing and evaluating a prototype for the project you are working on, gaining skills in the use of libraries or software that is critical for the final project, comparing and evaluating different approaches/libraries that could be used for your project, producing designs for the project, developing a testing framework for your project. Exactly what is done should be worked out by your team leader. Also you should run it past your workshop mentor (we will have a workshop activity that does this). The task that you take on must have artefacts that you can use to demonstrate the completion of your task. e.g. if you were gaining skills in the use of a particular library then you should create some demonstrations programs that use this library. Such artefacts must be made available in the svn repository and may be examined when this report is evaluated.
The report will be marked out of 100. And is worth 10% of the final mark. A late penalty of 10% per day applies (these are working days). Also note this penalty is caped so it does not take your mark for this report below 40 out of 100. This report will not be accepted after the last day of semester 1. Extensions are possible in documented exceptional cases (e.g. medical certificate).
The report must be at most 2 pages and contain the following:
- A title.
- Your name and student id, the team and project you are part of.
- Abstract - Overview of what you did and any outcomes.
- Summary of the task you did. This should point to artefacts stored in the svn repository or redmine.
- Motivation for undertaking this task.
- Outcome from undertaking this task and how you plan to make use of it in your teams project.
- Generally Discussion.
- Conclusions and Future Directions
In-addition to the main 2 page report you may attach appendices.
Use a 2-column report format with a 10 point Times-Roman font. The appendices may be single column. The report must be in pdf format that is viewable on the lab machines.
Marks will be given based on:
- The extent, utility, and quality of the task undertaken.
- The clarity of the report.
Assignment Submission
The assignment must be submitted via a computer in the CSIT labs (or remotely via ssh to partch or one of our servers). If you are in comp3100 submit the assignment using the following command (replace u1234567 with your unit id):submit comp3100 mini report1234567.pdfOr if you are in comp3500 use:
submit comp3500 mini reportu1234567.pdfNote you may also need to give the workshop group you are in, this can be done with the -n option, so if you are in workshop group 2 it would be something like:
submit comp3100 mini reportu1234567.pdf -n w2
A few hits for submission:
- Don't have spaces in your file names (the submit program does not like them!).
- Copy the files to your home directory, rather, than having them mounted on a USB drive.
- You may submit as many times as you like, I will mark the most recent one that is not late.
