WorkShops
Each semester there will be 10 workshops. Workshops are a critical part of how this course is delivered so it is important that you attend and participate in them.Workshops start in Week 1 and you can register for a workshop via streams.
Over the entire course the workshop participation contributes to 20% of your final mark. It is also a requirement that students pass the workshop component of the course to pass the course. The workshop participation mark is worked out in each semester with each semester contributing 10% to the final mark. In each workshop your mentor will record a participation mark for you out of 4 (4/4 the student participated in all aspects of the workshop and completed the required prep, 3/4 the student was late or did not take part in one aspect of the workshop or did not complete the prep yet still contributed to the workshop, 2/4 the student was there for the entire workshop but was only minimally involved, ...). Your participation mark will be worked out based on your best 8 of the 10 participation marks. So the participation mark out of 10 for one semester will be calculates by: 10*(sum of the best 8)/(4*8).
Your mentor will guide you through each workshop so mostly you just need to turn up. However, some workshops require a small amount of prep and also some workshops involve an assessment item. So it is important to have a quick read over the workshop before the workshop and do any require prep. Note your mentor will have the Handout printed so you don't need to print this prior to the workshop. You will need to put your name at the top of each of the workshop Handout and hand it in at the end of the workshop. Although this is not marked it provides evidence of workshop participation for your mentor. Over the year you will amass a folder of these workshops and then will be available during workshops for your reference and returned at the end of the year.
