---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CSIT RTW Bulletin #1: Fri Jan 29 1999 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulations! If you receive this email, you are a founding member of the CSIT RTW group! Currently our membership is: Alexander Pollard Alonso Marquez Ole NIELSEN Markus Buchhorn Trevor Vickers Paul Veldkamp Don Bone Robert Power Dean Kuo Denise Bett David A Wolfram Martin Schwenke Peter Strazdins I have put all of these in an email alias, csitrtw@cs (.anu.edu.au) (BTW let me know if your email changes or you wish to be taken off the alias). Some issues rased by your responses were: * cycle paths condition (eg ramps), especially approaching ANU * bike storage at ANU: shelter & security (the CSIT Bikeshed I believe solves these issues, although at the cost of some convenience - ie negotiating the swipe card doors. BTW you get access to the bikeshed by emailing bikeshed@cbr.dit.csiro.au, details on the door of the Bikeshed). * practical issues in riding to work: weather, protection of clothing etc Maybe a bit later in the year we can discuss these issues one by one. COMMUNICATION ISSUES: 1. electronic. I guess most of us dont want a lot of discussions (`email storms') on the csitrtw alias. I suggest discussion of issues be left till we can get a news group (probably hypernews), but Martin says this will take some time (a few months maybe). For the time being, I will send bulletins (fortnightly or monthly, as need be). If you want to bring anything up, I suggest emailing myself (peter@cs) directly. I will find some way of making it publically available - perhaps create a web page - and provide a digest of such contributions in the next Bulletin. 2. notice boards. For this month, I have put some notices of upcoming Pedal Power events (see below) on: * the CSIT Bikeshed (outside of door). I propose to move this inside, where it will be protected from weather and passersby, when I can get a suitable board to put notices on. * CSIT Tea Room (south corner) * DCS Noticeboard, outside N329. For those of you in CMIS, would there be a better noticeboard in your wing? For those of you in RSISE (Ole and Markus), what would be a suitable arrangement? For everyone, would a board in the CSIT Bikeshed alone be adequate? Please let me know. UPCOMING PEDAL POWER EVENTS: 1. The RTW Breakfast Weds Feb 3 7am-9am at the Muffn Break (nr Garema Place, Civic). I guess the main idea of this is to meet fellow cyclists, although there are prizes that will be given away too. I will be there 7:45-8:45; if anyone else thinks they'll come along, please let me know. 2. The RTW Dinner Sat Feb 13 7:30pm, Wests Rugby Clib, Macquarie. This costs $25 and you need to book - see the noticeboards or myself for details. (I probably wont make this one, as family committments make it difficult). Anyone that is interested, let me know - I will put you in contact with each other. Well thats it for the time being. Happy cycling! -Peter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- RTW: sponsored by Pedal Power, HealthPact & (ACT) Heart Foundation oooooooo Be Active for Life ! oooooooo ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
