ANU Offers Subsidized Lights!

As a follow-up from the Ride-to-Uni Breakfast on Feb 19th (which incidentally had some good free information on cycling, including free cycle-path maps), ANUgreen is offering Vistalite 'Roadtoad' Combo, includes large red rear light, and Dual Beam (Hi/Lo) 5W front headlight, and batteries, all ready to go at $45.00. They also have some cheap D-locks and Adura helmets ($30) left over from the Ride-to-Uni Breakfast.

You can purchase these from the ANUgreen office, bottom floor John Yencken Building (parking office), during working hours.

CSIT Bikeshed News

Those of us that are Bikeshed users will have noticed a big shake-up last February. The main motivation was that FEIT took over from CSIRO control of access, and there was a desire to purge the large number of stale card accesses and free up space consumed by bikes left there for long period. I understand that a Committee will be formed when the FEIT Business Manager returns shortly.

At the recent ANU Cyclist Reference Group meeting, it was estimated that there are 700 bicycle commuters daily coming to ANU; the long-term bikeshed policy might be to offer communal bikeshed facilities (which may possibly mean that local areas such as ours may have to relinquish control of their bikesheds for general use).

The GDE and Cycling Arrangements

We've heard a lot about the Gungahlin Drive Extension lately. I guess its almost inevitable they will resume bulldozing in the next few months, disrupting the OConnor Ridge cycle-path for some time, and totally destroying a fair bit of single-track in the area :(.

The better news is that the Pedal Power Advocacy has helped ensure that the work plan requires that cyclist access be maintained on the current path and the new one when it is replaced. Anyone noticing damage, gravel spills, or hazards on the path should immediately report an unsafe worksite to Workcover on 6207-6353. (source: PP email bulletin, 04/04)
