---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CSIT RTW Bulletin #5: Mon Sep 6 1999 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ***** If you would like to make a contribution to these bulletins, ***** ***** please send it to me by email by the end of the month ***** Spring has returned, and the days are getting longer and warmer. Indeed its one of the finest seasons to be cycling in Canberra, so its time to brush the cobwebs of your bikes (if you've allowed them to accumulate, that is :) and get active again! WET WEATHER GEAR: For those like me that dont (easily) have the option of driving to work once the weather start looking inclement, good wet weather gear is a must. Last winter, I bought a Netti waterproof cycling jacket. It cost $150 and is made of a light, breathable goretex-like material, and has got zippable vents and an internal lining also. For $15, I bought a (non-breathable) clear silicone-material overpants. Anyway, with the few wild and wet days that we've had in the last few months, I can give an evaluation on the jacket. It does indeed keep the water out effectively, but internal condensation was still a problem, especially on the arms. But then again, I ride fairly hard and tend to perspire a bit. The overpants I have not tried yet - when I had to decide whether to take them, the rain didnt seem to be quite heavy enough to need them (although half the time I had cause to regret that!). UPCOMING PEDAL POWER EVENTS: I've put September's calendar up on our NoticeBoard. There are various weekend rides adverstised for those with free time thereof :). Well thats it for the time being. Happy cycling! -Peter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- RTW: sponsored by Pedal Power, HealthPact & (ACT) Heart Foundation new sponsor!
