Source: Paul Bourke and Linda Butler, ANU Research School of Social Sciences,
Higher Education Supplement of "The Australian", 8 March 1995.
The relative participation rates of Australian Universities in ten
scientific fields for 1988-1992 were assessed by recording the numbers
of publications written by academics at Australian universities
cited in the Science Citation Index of the Institute for
Scientific Information in Philadelphia, USA.
The Australian National University had the largest share of publications in
- Physical Sciences (25%)
- Information and Computing (21%)
- Mathematical Sciences (21%)
- Earth Sciences (18%)
- Biology (12%)
- Chemical Sciences (11%)
Per Capita Weighted Publication Output
Source: Australian Vice-Chancellors Committee Financial and Research
Publications Data Collection 1994. The weighting scheme for example
gave books greater weight, and joint journal publications less than a
journal paper by a single author.
