Title: Department of Computer Science Seminar Date: Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000 Time: 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm Venue: Room N101, CSIT Building [108] Speaker: A/Prof George Mohay (School of Computing Science, Queensland University of Technology) Description: "Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection" Abstract Intrusion Detection has heralded acceptance of the fact that preventive security has failed in the face of global connectivity and open systems. Or at least that it is insufficient. The RAID conferences (Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection) commenced quite recently in 1998 in synchrony with recognition of this. The speaker will provide a brief introduction to the current state of Intrusion Detection and then summarize the most significant work presented at RAID'2000 which he attended last month in Toulouse. The presentation will include a description of how the field has developed even in the short period since the first RAID conference in 1998 and will include reference to some related work presented at ESORICS'2000 which followed RAID'2000.
