                                    Abstract




                                   

This presentation discusses the use of web based electronic document and 
transaction formats for e-commerce. A simple enhancement of web services 
transactions is proposed to bridge the gap between the needs of small and 
large businesses, to make e-commerce practical. This demonstrated using the
Australian Tax Office's electronic Business Activity Statement. It is 
argued that the same XML standards can now be used to replace the Microsoft
Word document format for word processing and PDF for electronic publishing,
as well as being used for e-commerce.
