############################################################ Seminar Announcement Department of Computer Science, FEIT The Australian National University ############################################################ Date: Wednesday, 8 February, 2006 Time: 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm Venue: Room N101, CSIT Building [108] Speaker: Tom Worthington, Visiting Fellow, DCS Title: Humanitarian Disaster Management on a Wireless PDA Abstract: Sahana is an Open Source disaster management system for finding missing persons, coordinating relief organizations and tracking victims in relief camps. The system was developed at short notice for the December 2004 Tsunami and revised for the Pakistan earthquake relief operation. Tom Worthington assisted with the design of the user interface for the new version and discusses how the application was adapted for hand held devices and low bandwidth links in disaster operations. Tom is a former IT policy adviser to the Department of Defence, a past president and Honorary Life Member of the Australian Computer Society.
