Speaker: Tom Worthington, Visiting Fellow, DCS

Title:   Humanitarian Disaster Management on a Wireless PDA

Abstract:
   Sahana is an Open Source disaster management system for finding
   missing persons, coordinating relief organizations and tracking
   victims in relief camps. The system was developed at short
   notice for the December 2004 Tsunami and revised for the Pakistan
   earthquake relief operation. Tom Worthington assisted with the
   design of the user interface for the new version and discusses
   how the application was adapted for hand held devices and low
   bandwidth links in disaster operations. See:

Biography:
   Tom Worthington is an independent IT consultant and a Visiting
   Fellow in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of
   Engineering and Information Technology at the Australian
   National University, where he teaches the design of web sites
   and use of e-commerce systems. Tom is a former IT policy
   adviser to the Department of Defence, a past president and
   Honorary Life Member of the Australian Computer Society.
