############################################################ Seminar Announcement School of Computer Science, CECS The Australian National University ############################################################ Date: Thursday, 10 September 2009 Time: 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm Venue: Room N101, CSIT Building [108] Speaker: Idris Sulaiman, School of Computer Science, ANU Title: Comparative Green IT Diffusion in Leading Universities Abstract: Green IT is as much about the financial motivation as it is about reducing the environmental impact of operating IT and the business. This paper provides a preliminary insight on the status of the comparative diffusion in terms of Green IT maturity (in terms of a quantifiable Green IT Readiness Index) as well as some major driving and hindering factors. So when asking yourself whether Green IT has financial merits, the short answer is yes - but corporate and IT leadership must understand why and how this is achieved to invest time, technology, training and capital wisely. Overall, the findings indicate that universities are developing responses to these drivers - some are taking more effective action (that can lead to a higher level of Green IT maturity) than others. Biography: Idris is an economist with extensive international research and organisational experience working on projects dealing with energy efficiency and economic development issues in ICT. He has worked with the Australia's Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA) as economist and project manager implementing minimum energy efficiency standards and labelling in ICT equipment as well as authoring white papers on energy efficiency challenges facing ICT and computing equipment and data centres.
