Title: Sather-K: Language, Implementation and Use 5. Target Audience: general audience 6. Abstract: Sather-K is an object-oriented language developed for simplicity and ease of use. It grew out of Steve Omohundro's Sather development at ICSI. It has extensively been used in introductory courses as the first imperative programming language and in advanced courses for teaching the development of reusable libraries. The former implementations are currently replaced by a new compiler presently running under LINUX. Other backends are in preparation. In this talk we survey the language, report about the implementation and discuss the use of the language in class and for research projects. 7. Biography: Professor Gerhard Goos is most well-known to computer scientists as the principal editor of Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science, a position he has held since 1973!! He has been a professor at the University of Karlsruhe since 1970 and has held positions of great influence on prominent institutional and governmental boards around the world. Professor Goos has published 10 books and more than 50 research papers mainly in the areas programming languages, compilers, operating systems and software engineering in general. 8.
