Speaker: Steve Blackburn Department of Computer Science Australian National University 2. Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm, 20th May 1996 (Monday) 3. Place: Room 101 CSIT building, ANU 4. Title: Multicomputer Object Stores 5. Target Audience: general audience 6. Abstract: This talk reports on research directed towards a longer term goal of creating a software environment which will facilitate the integration of high performance distributed memory computers (multicomputers) into networked computer systems. Object stores are central to the envisaged environment, and distributed memory multicomputers are an important key to scalable high performance computing. The development of object stores for distributed memory multicomputers raises many interesting challenges. A wide range of issues come into play, including: concurrency control, memory management, recovery mechanisms, type safety, garbage collection, and many more. The talk will report on two experiments -- Multicomputer Texas and the AP1000 DataSafe, as well as addressing the question of the direction of future work in this area. 7. Biography: Steve Blackburn is a PhD candidate at the ANU Department of Computer Science. This talk forms part of his mid-term review process. 8.
