Speaker: Roger Clarke Visiting Fellow, Department of Computer Science and consultant in Electronic Commerce 2. Time: 4:00pm - 5:30pm, 6th November 1996 (Wednesday) 3. Place: Room N101 in the Department of Computer Science Ground Floor, CSIT Building, ANU 4. Title: Applications of Smart Cards 5. Target Audience: honours students and above, and final-year students who have an interest in the area 6. Abstract: Smart Cards have been around for a long time, but are only now making real inroads into the marketplace. There are five stored-value card (SVC) pilots currently in operation that are directly relevant to Australia. This presentation, the second in the workshop trilogy, will accordingly concentrate on SVCs, but will consider other applications, especially those that can be gainfully linked to SVCs. 7. Biography Roger Clarke has recently published a major monograph on applications of chip-cards in financial services, and has contributed to another. Mr Clarke spent a decade as Reader in Information Systems in the ANU's Department of Commerce. He returned to full-time consultancy in mid-1995, and practises in electronic commerce, information infrastructure, and privacy and data surveillance. His primary orientation is to organisational strategy and public policy; but he tries to stay in touch with the technical underpinnings, and hence highly values his interactions with DCS people through his Visiting Fellowship in the Department.
