Speaker: Roger Clarke Visiting Fellow, Department of Computer Science and consultant in Electronic Commerce 2. Time: 4:00pm - 5:30pm, 2nd December 1996 (Monday) 3. Place: Room N101 in the Department of Computer Science Ground Floor, CSIT Building, ANU 4. Title: Net-Based Payment Mechanisms 5. Target Audience: honours students and above, and final-year students who have an interest in the area 6. Abstract: Direct, adequately secure payment over the Internet has been all the rage for some time now. There are many (proto-)products, and many issues arising from their use, but there's far more hype and confusion than calm analysis. In this seminar/workshop, the third in his series, Roger Clarke will present and classify the various designs, and identify and outline the key technical, business and other issues. There will not be a formal paper, but some readings are available, in relation to both the kinds of products that are emerging, and the issues. In addition, a draft classification is available. Biography Roger Clarke spent a decade as Reader in Information Systems in the ANU's Department of Commerce. He returned to full-time consultancy in mid-1995, and practises in electronic commerce, information infrastructure, and privacy and data surveillance. Mr Clarke's primary orientation is to organisational strategy and public policy; but he tries to stay in touch with the technical underpinnings, and hence highly values his interactions with DCS people through his Visiting Fellowship in the Department.
