March of the cyborgs and human rights

Dr Roger Clarke, visiting professor at the School of Computer Science is addressing the 10th IEEE International Symposium on Technology in Society at the University of Wollongong today (7 June 2010) on the social impacts of 'cyborgs' on activities like sport and medicine.

"The first generation of cyborgs is alive and well, walking among us and even running," Dr Clarke is quoted as saying in an ABC Science Online article dated 5 June 2010.

Dr Clarke believes that urgent national debate is needed to address the human rights questions that arise as a result of enhanced human capabilities because of cyborg technologies that have the capacity to impact on us politically, socially, ethically and economically.
