High achievers
“As I move around the College and the community both here and overseas, I am in the lucky position of being able to listen to comments from students and their families, our academic and general staff, or the local business community, about the College, our work, and the people in it,” said Professor Chris Baker, Dean of the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science.
“I am always impressed by what I hear. We have some outstanding people doing extraordinary work in teaching and research, and it gives me great pleasure to talk about recent scholarship recipients and prize-winners from amongst our students, with first mention going to the Boyapati Awards.”
“Earlier this month I also had the privilege of awarding prizes to students in recognition of their academic successes and hard work in 2009 at the CECS Prizes and Scholarships ceremony,” said Professor Baker as he acknowledged and thanked the people that helped students to achieve their successes. He highlighted the efforts of academic staff, family, friends and other supporters including donors without whom the prizes would not be possible.
The Dean’s List of awards is made to College students who achieved the outstanding result of an average of over 85 per cent in their Engineering or Computing courses in 2009.
The Dean’s Prize is awarded to students who achieved the outstanding result of First Class Honours in a College degree in 2009.
“We are additionally in the lucky position of having several benefactors for College Scholarships and Prizes. They contribute immensely, and valuably, for a variety of reasons, but most commonly because they wish to either give something back to the University, or because they wish to support engineering and computing,” said Professor Baker. “I thank all these individuals and organisations for their support.”
“Finally, I’d like to congratulate our three Poster Competition winners from the HDR Poster Exhibition held on 22 July."
