CECS sweeps ResearchFest poster exhibition
“Congratulations to three higher degree by research students who swept the board at the ANU ResearchFest poster exhibition on 6 July,” said Professor Alistair Rendell, Acting Dean of the ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science.
ResearchFest is a celebration of research students at ANU and brings students together to participate in talks, training and events to enrich their student experience, and help them to gain better skills along the way.
"We were very pleased to see so many wonderful research posters entered in the competition. The judges were looking for communication style, clarity, and engagement, and found these in abundance in the winning entries," said Dr Trevor Vickers, Head of the Research Student Development Centre.
The prize-winning students are:
1st. Chris Browne, PhD student in Materials and Manufacturing
2nd. Mohammad Deghat, PhD student in Systems and Control
3rd. Nandita Sharma,* PhD student in Interactive Human Computing
“Our College did particularly well at this year’s ResearchFest as we also won the prize for the best student participation from amongst all Colleges at ANU,” said Professor Rendell.
“I think our level of participation, coupled with the prize-winning entries in the competition, demonstrate the level of commitment that CECS research students have to the University, and the commitment that our staff have to encouraging and supporting students in extra-curricula activities that broaden their knowledge and experience at ANU,” he said.
“They may also have had a slightly hidden agenda though!” he said.
“Our Techno Expo on Monday 15 August 2011 at University House will showcase 80 posters from research students at an event designed to increase awareness of what engineering and computing means to people, and how research in these disciplines helps to make the world a better place,” he said.
All are welcome at the Open Poster Exhibition from 4.00pm to 5.30pm.
*Nandita also won the prize for Audience Favourite.
