NICTA Techfest 2013
NICTA's eighth national Technology Showcase took place on Wednesday 13 February 2013 in the Great Hall at Parliament House, Canberra, and was officially opened by Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
The event, attended by over 700 people, showcased how NICTA, Australia’s leading information and communications technology (ICT) R&D organisation, is transforming Australian industry.
The high-tech show featured breaking news, over 60 advanced technology projects and demonstrations, a keynote address from NICTA CEO Hugh Durrant-Whyte, and official opening by Senator Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.
Many of the achievements on display at Techfest involved staff, students, adjuncts or visitors from the Research School of Computer Science at ANU.
Specifically, two achievements merit special mention:
Patrik Haslum (ANU AI Group, NICTA Optimisation Research Group) received the Richard Newton Excellence in Research Award for his contributions to the field of automated planning. The purpose of this award is to recognise research excellence as evidenced by the impact achieved.
Menkes van den Briel (NICTA Optimisation Research Group, adjunct to ANU AI Group) received the FB Rice Prize for Best Engagement in Patent Activity. The purpose of the award is to recognise the individual or group which has engaged in the patent process in the most effective manner.
The College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the Research School of Computer Science extend our congratulations to Patrik and Menkes, and also to NICTA for a great event!
