The CSIT (occasional) Health & Safety Bulletin, August 2002 1. Water quality at CSIT (ref: http://cs.anu.edu.au/ohs/bulletins/Jan02) I have a (hardcopy) report from Roy Schmid from the OHS Unit. On the basis of test results taken last April, and other information, it concludes that CSIT tap waster is `safe to drink'. It does state that the electric wall urns however should *not* be used until further testing is done. Please see me if you wish to read the report. Other news is the F&S has recently discontinued mains water flushing. I've asked if daily flushing of cold water taps used for drinking, and use of water filters, is still needed. Roy's response its that its up to the individual. I take that to mean that if you dont mind continuing flushing the taps & marking it off on the chart, please continue to do so. However, it you dont want to bother about all this, you can drink straight from a cold water tap without serious heath concerns as well. I intend however to keep pursuing the issue, including at least a further round of tests (and have some control this time on which taps and under what conditions they are tested). In particular the first floor tap which students use should be tested. I have still some concern whether the Cu levels of the recent tests will remain as low if all forms of flushing cease completely. Please let me know if you have any questions or require any further clarifications. Peter Strazdins CS Safety Co-ordinator
