The CSIT (occasional) Health & Safety Bulletin, January 2002 1. Water quality at CSIT belatedly we have received the test results last October. Water from the CS Library tap tested at about 50% of the safe level of Cu, whereas a tap in the South Wing tested at about 400%. This indicates a potentially serious generic problem at CSIT (at least at its current age). Until further notice (this could go on in the worst case for some years to come) our strategy for managing this problem will include: * flushing of CSIT mains on weekdays (7:30-8:30), performed by F&S * local daily flushing of cold water taps used for drinking (charts with instructions are now installed by the taps). * use of filtered water for drinking (including filling coffee machine and electric kettle). The filter should be replenished as needed, AFTER the Tea Room tap has been flushed for that day. (Many thanks to Antoinette for obtaining the filter; filtered water is much better from the healt point of view even without the Cu problem) * wall hot water urns should not be used (read `use at your own risk'). Please let me know if any further clarifactions needed. Peter Strazdins CS Safety Co-ordinator
