The CSIT Building Occupational Health and Safety Committee (Meeting) ================================================================== Date: Friday 29 August 2008 Time: 14:05-14:55 Venue: CSIT N335 Present: Julie Arnold, Clem Baker-Finch, Deanne Drummond, James Sheridan, Peter Strazdins (chair), Glyn Whitworth Apologies: Tom Gedeon, Mandy Yialeloglou MINUTES: 1. Apologies Noted. 2. Minutes of previous meeting Approved. 3. Matters arising: 3.1 Tagging of Electrical Appliances in CSIT Peter reported there was no progress on this point. Glyn mentioned that requirements for testing varied per appliance. For example, fridges and dishwashers and which appliances need be checked yearly. Computer power cables need only be checked once; similarly for power supplies for laptops. There was discussion on the options available, including F&S to do this. There was also discussion on the technology, e.g. Supernova which has an in-built database which makes this easier. ACTION: the Committee to recommend to the HoD that F&S be called in to do the bulk of the tagging in the near future, with the possible exception of critical/sensitive equipment. 3.2. ANU Health and Safety Management Arrangements followup Peter reported that he emailed the HoD and Head TSG on Feb 25 bringing section 7.2 (role of supervisors) to their attention. No response was given. Peter reported that the response of the Committee was reported to the CECS OHS meeting on the same date. De reported that no softcopy of Emergency and Evacuation Procedures posters could be obtained. ACTION: DCS Office to redraw poster. 3.3 Update of OHS Induction Manual De reported that this is complete and on the DCS DA website. ACTION: De to inform Peter of the URL for the document so that it can be linked from the OHS page. 3.4. OSLO office checks 2008 Julie reported she had done 13 office checks within CSIT and 6 in the Ian Ross Building. 4. New hazard and injury reports Peter reported there were none. 5. Workplace Audits 2008 - DCS Peter reported that there was some overlap between the inspection indicated and the annual building inspection currently in place. He proposed that the activities be combined, which was accepted by the Committee. The inspection coversheet and reference sheets were considered; it was felt that CSIT was currently mostly in order, except with electrical safety education. ACTION: Peter to put link from OHS web page to ANU Electrical Safety Guidelines. Committee to distribute the updated brochures when these become available. Meeting concluded 14:55
