The CS&IT Building Occupational Health and Safety Committee Meeting Date: Tuesday, 5 Sep 2000 Time: 11:05-11:35 Venue: CSIT N335 present: Michelle Clarke, Margot Napier, Peter Strazdins apologies: Chris Gunn, Arch Brayshaw MINUTES: 1. Minutes of previous meeting. confirmed. 2. Matters arising. 2.1 OSLO representative for CSIT Peter reported that this matter be raised again when new CS Office staff are appointed. 2.2 security lighting outside CSIT N101 A light was installed early June on wall of Link Building facing back towards CSIT N101 and Bikeshed. This was satisfactory until the link was completed, by then the link obscured the light. On Jul 20, Duncan Taylor of F&S requested builder to move light on other side of link. After further prompting on Jul 27, light was moved and appears to be satisfactory. This item is now completed. 2.3 CSIT First Aid Kit replenishment. Michelle sent details of Parasol to Margot, who has requested HoD CS approval for paying for 6 monthly checking & replacing of items. It was felt that Parasol costs are competitive. 3. New hazard reports None had been reported. 4. General OH&S News Peter mentioned the current Laser Pointer Audit and noted that there were no known Pointers in CS&IT. Michelle to report this to central OH&S. Michelle reported that the new First Aid Code has been accepted by the ANU Policy Committee. Also that the former ANU Policy on reimbursement of screen-required spectacles is now rescinded. She also reported that the Campus Unions have requested legislation be put in the ANU Policy for each OH&S area have a Health and Safety Representative (if it becomes policy, CS&IT would be required to produce such a representative). This would be a nominal 2 year appointment, where the representative would sit on the local OH&S Committee but have special powers. They have requested nominations from all areas last month. ACTION: Michelle to forward Peter the previously sent emails for the nomination. 5. Other Business. Michelle noted that it is by Commonwealth Legislation that a minimum of 4 area OH&S meetings are held annually. A discussion on the requirements on the composition of the area OH&S Committees follwed. ACTION: Peter to ask HoD CS to nominate 2 new members to represent Management (as required by Guidelines). It also important that the Office, TSG, and 2nd Floor also have a representative on the Committee.
