The CSIT Building Occupational Health and Safety Committee (Meeting) ================================================================== Date: Monday 10 September 2007 Time: 14:05-14:55 Venue: CSIT N335 Present: Clem Baker-Finch, Lynnette Johns-Boast, Deanne Drummond, James Fellows, James Sheridan, Peter Strazdins (chair), Mandy Yialeloglou Apologies: Ian Barnes MINUTES: 1. Apologies / Membership Apologies noted. Mandy Yialeloglou and Karen Barndt were welcomed as new liaison members for CSIRO CMIS. 2. Minutes of previous meeting Approved. 3. Matters arising: 3.1 OOS prevention measures James S reported that the intention of his previous proposal for on-site massages was for the purpose of tension and OOS awareness, rather than for ongoing therapy. De said that there would be unlikely to be funds available for such a purpose from the 2008 DCS budget. Mandy suggested a user-paid group booking could still be organized. James felt that without the incentive, there would not be sufficient numbers, and so the suggestion should be dropped. 3.2 Fire Warden training & membership Peter reported that as of Jun 25, the list of trained wardens is (almost) complete. 3.3 ANU co-ordinated OHS Audit Peter reported that the Audit was completed in July and submitted to CECS & ANU OHS in August: apparently one of the first to do so. Peter thanked the Committee for the team effort; the others commended the effectiveness of Peter's chivying in this matter. Peter commented that there were a few responses less than an unconditional `yes' that might need to be considered for next year's audit 4. New hazard and injury reports None had been reported. 5. Local policy for Children in the Workplace Peter cited a recent email from HoD Chris Johnson proposing a specific list of rooms to be considered `dangerous' for children. It was noted that it was consistent with the list of room as specified in 2005 by http://cs.anu.edu.au/ohs/ChildInWorkplace.html, with the possible exception of N238 HCI Lab. After some discussion, it was felt that N238 could be considered a `server room' and could be included. N236 MAI (Mind Attention Interface) room should also be added to the list. ACTION: Peter to update the above web page accordingly. 6. Other business 6.1 Issue of being locked in the stairwells Several people raised concern that without a swipe card, one could get trapped after hours in the stairwells. While this has always been the case, it has been exacerbated by recent moving back of the after hours start to 5pm. Also, with the increased use of N223/4 after hours, it was also possible to get trapped when going to the first floor (e.g. for the toilets). ACTION: James F to provide a list of phone numbers to be placed by the phones in the stairwells, where people could call for assistance. 7.2 Renovations While these are drawing to their end, the small of glue has been an issue, which has been alleviated somewhat by opening the dampers in the air conditioning. De will do so again if needed. Meeting concluded 14:45
