Research Projects Undertaken

From 1989 to 1991, I worked as a team leader on a national project -- A CAI System for Mandarin Learners, which was successfully completed in December 1991. This project was awarded to the university by the central government of China.
In 1992, I developed an information system for the Government of Harbin City, the capital city of Heilongjiang Province, China.
In 1993, I developed two software packages for Daqing Oil Company. One was called SUNMAN, an administration software for networked computer system based on Sun Workstations. The other was SUNPRETTY, a desktop typesetting software on Sun workstations. These two packages were developed in C and Openwindow on sun workstations.
Since 1997, I have been working on designing and implementing a new object oriented programming language GISM(Generalized Intelligent System Modeller) using C/C++, Flex, Bison in UNIX platforms. From this work, I have published several technical papers.

Professional Interests

Doing research in Knowledge Representation, Logic and automated reasoning, Constraint Based Reasoning and Problem Solving, Generic Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent System, Information System, Programming Techniques, Object-Oriented programming and constraint programming in particular.
Designing system software. I have been involved in developing printer drivers, computer aided administration system in networked computing environment and computer virus diagnosis packages. My work in this area has been significantly benefited from my knowledge of computer system and architecture acquired from my undergraduate study.
Developing application software systems, which include information system, computer aided instruction software, expert system and desktop publishing software.
Programming in various languages such as C/C++, Java, Visual C++, Visual BASIC, PASCAL, MODULA, LISP, PROLOG, SQL and other database programming languages, assembly languages, TCL/TK, ML, Perl, UNIX shells and windows libraries such as X11, Motif, OGL as well as MS-Windows.
Electronic publishing in TeX/LaTeX, HTML and SGML.
Software testing and debugging.
Computer system security such as protecting computer systems from viruses.
Computer system administration and maintenance in networked computing environment based on either UNIX/X-Windows, DOS/MS- Windows, or MacOS system.

Social Experience

From 1978 to 1981, I worked as an information officer for the Government Of Jilin Province, China.
From 1981 to 1985, during the period of my undergraduate study at Jilin University, I was one of the student leaders in the department.
From 1984 to 1986, after I was granted to admission into postgraduate program with all examinations waived by the university authorities, I become a part-time employee, with duties of student administration in the Department of Computer Science, Jilin University.
From 1985 to 1988, I was an elected member of the postgraduate student association at Jilin University, with responsibilties for organizing academic activities for postgraduate students in the science and engineering disciplines.
From 1988 to 1994, I was an assistant to the Head of the Department of Computer Science, Heilongjiang University, with responsibilities for planning, scheduling and monitoring teaching and some research activities across the department.
