Research projects I undertook

As part of my duties in the Department of Computer Science, Heilongjiang University, I participated in the following projects awarded to the University by the central government of China or the provincial government of Heilongjiang.

1989 -- 1991	Worked as a team leader on a national project -- A CAI System for Mandarin Learners, which was successfully completed in December 1991.
1993	On a contract made between Daqing Oil company and Heilongjiang University, I worked as a computer consultant for the company. My duty was to help people in the company to get familiar with the newly imported workstation-based network. In addition to delivery some training courses, I also developed the following two software packages for the company: a. SUNMAN, an administration software for networked computer system based on Sun Workstations. b. SUNPRETTY, a desktop publication software on Sun workstations.
1992	An information system was developed for the Government of Harbin City, the capital of Heilongjiang Province.

Areas of Expertise

Doing research in Knowledge Representation, Logic and automated reasoning, Constraint-Based Reasoning and Problem Solving, Generic Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent System, Information System and Programming Techniques.
System software analysis and design. I have been involved in developing printer drivers, computer aided administration system in networked computing environment and computer virus diagnosis packages. My work in this area has been significantly benefited from the knowledge of computer system and architecture which I acquired from my undergraduate study.
Application Software analysis and design, which includes information system, computer aided instruction software, expert system and desktop publishing software.
Programming in various languages such as C/C++, PASCAL, MODULA, LISP, PROLOG, SQL and other database programming languages, Java, assembly languages, TCL/TK, ML, Perl, UNIX shells and windows libraries such as X11, Motif as well as MS-Windows.
Electronic publishing in TeX/LaTeX, HTML and SGML.
Software testing and debugging.
Computer system security such as protecting computer systems from viruses.
Computer system administration and maintenance in networked computing environment based on either UNIX/X-Windows, DOS/MS- Windows, or MacOS system.

Social Experience

1978 --1981	I worked as a public servant in the Provincial Government Of Jilin, CHINA.
1981 -- 1985	During the period of my undergraduate study at Jilin University, I was one of the student leaders in the department. From the beginning of 1984, when all examinations for me to admission into postgraduate study were waived by the university authorities, I become a part-time employee in the university with duties of student administration in the Department of Computer Science.
1985 -- 1988	I was an elected member of the postgraduate student association of the university, in charge of organising academic activities for postgraduate students in the science and engineering disciplines.
988 -- 1994	1 In addition to the professional positions at Heilongjiang University, I was also appointed as Assistant to the Head of the Department of Computer Science, with responsibilities of organising and monitoring some teaching and research affairs for the department. From that work, I developed very good relationships with colleagues, students as well as people from the university, industries and governments.
