Dr James Popple is a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the Australian National University.

He is also a barrister and solicitor, and a First Assistant Secretary in the Australian Attorney-General's Department.

As part of his PhD research, he developed a legal expert system called SHYSTER. Some of his publications—in the fields of law and information technology—are available on-line.
