Paul Thistlewaite

Paul Thistlewaite was a Senior Lecturer in the department until his untimely death in 1999.

His research interests :

• document technologies, such as information storage and retrieval and document summarisation
• all things to do with the World Wide Web
• and automated theorem proving

and particular research activities include:

• participation in the Text Retrieval Conference (TREC) conducted by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
• organisation of the Very Large Collection (VLC) track of TREC6
• co-chairing the Programme Committee of the 7th International World Wide Web Conference (WWW7)
• AusWebs
• participation in the ACSys Cooperative Research Centre, as a member of its Executive Forum, Science Advisor to the Digital Media Libraries Program, leader of the PASTIME Hypermedia Project, and research member of the TAR Project
• Parliament Internet Trial, and commercialisation via Fujitsu and AGPS
