The Masters IT Projects Community of Practice Initiative web page

This is the web page for resources for an initiative to introduce the Community of Practice (CoP) approach to aid in the teaching of generic research and project-related skills in CS Projects (formerly known as the `eScience projects') at the Australian National University over 2006--2008.

The initiative involved forming a Community of Practice comprising the students enrolled in project courses and the facilitator Peter Strazdins to teach generic project- and research- related skills and improve the students' educational experience. The approach was evaluated using the action research method.

It includes the following resources:

• a portfolio Applying the Community of Practice Approach to Postgraduate IT Projects , submitted for EDUC8003 in July 2006, describing and evaluating the initiative in semester 1 2006.

• a conference paper, describing and evaluating the initiative over semesters 1 in 2006 and 2007, plus accomanying slides

• web pages providing description of the scheduling of the Community of Practice sessions and references used for 2006, for 2007 and for 2008.

• a description of the agendas for each meeting session in 2006, and agrends for 2008.

• the initial and final survey forms used (2006 versions).

• the presentation evaluation form used (2006 version).

• from the CS project courses web page, there are links to each project course's description and assessment schemes, and the web pages for the student projects for the respective semester.
