Forest Exploration using Autonomous Hexa-copter

Project Code: CECS_807

This project is available at the following levels:
Engn4200, Engn R&D, Honours, Summer Scholar, Masters, PhD

Supervisor:

Dr Jon Kim

Outline:

Forest exploration is a challenging task due to lack of reliable navigational aid such as GPS and high cluttered and unstructured environment. With the recent development of multi-copter flyers, which are much safer to operate than helicopters or fixed wings, it becomes more feasible than imagined. The aim of this project is to investigate the reactive control strategy (which basically steers the robot to avoid any collisions) of hexa-copter together with high-level path planning algorithms such as Model Predictive Control (MPC) or Rapidly-exploring Random Trees (RRT). Matlab simulation study will initially be conducted but a real-demonstration of the reactive controller will be expected.
