Student research opportunities
Charging Large Numbers of Electric Vehicles (PhD, Masters, Summer Scholar, Honours Projects etc.)
Project Code: CECS_844
This project is available at the following levels:
Honours, Summer Scholar, Masters, PhD
Supervisor:
Dr Adrian BishopOutline:
Electric vehicles that obtain some or all of their energy from the electricity grid may achieve significant market penetration over the next few years. Managing the charging of these vehicles in a cost-effective manner that places a minimum strain on the current power network will become a challenging problem as the number of electric vehicles in service increases.
Goals of this project
The goal of this project is to develop a strategy to coordinate the charging of autonomous plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs).
Requirements/Prerequisites
The project calls for either a Ph.D. candidate, Masters student, Summer Scholar or Honours student. Project details will vary depending on the background and level of the applicant. The student must be able to handle the mathematics of differential equations and/or advanced optimization theory. The student should have an understanding of some aspects of modern control (at the appropriate level of the requested project).
Student Gain
The student will gain research experience in a leading research group. The student will gain valuable problem solving experience. The student will have the chance to interact with other researchers and may have the opportunity publish in this area.
