Experimental determination of the carrier mobility in compensated silicon

Project Code: CECS_860

This project is available at the following levels:
Honours
Please note that this project is only for undergraduate students.

Keywords:

Silicon, solar cells, mobility, silicon, lifetime, resistivity

Supervisor:

Dr Fiacre Rougieux

Outline:

New compensated solar grade feedstocks are emerging as an alternative to the energy intensive and expensive silicon produce from the Siemens process. However it is still not well understood how the mobility is affected by the greater amount of dopants in such materials.

Goals of this project

This project aims at determining the carrier mobility in compensated silicon on a wide range of samples.
Experimental measurements will be conducted using different techniques.

Requirements/Prerequisites

Knowledge of semiconductor physics.

Student Gain

Gain an understanding in fundamental properties of silicon.
Experience with several characterization techniques used in the semiconductor and solar industry.
