Natural human-computer interaction with Kinect and Leap Motion

Project Code: CECS_931

This project is available at the following levels:
CS single semester, Engn4200, Engn R&D, Honours, Summer Scholar, Masters

Keywords:

Human-computer interaction, Kinect, Leap Motion

Supervisor:

Dr Yuchao Dai

Outline:

With the increasing popularity of novel 3D sensing devices such as Microsoft Kinect and Leap Motion, natural human-computer interaction has become relatively easy. This project aims to develop natural human-computer interaction applications based Kinect and Leap Motion. Kinect has the advantage of sensing large area indoor environment while the precision is relatively low. Leap Motion which has just been released can sense near distance area with high accuracy. This project aims at fusing information from Kinect and Leap Motion to create a large natural interaction area with high accuracy. This project will involve extensive processing of 3D point clouds from Kinect and 3D trajectories of fingers from Leap Motion. Desired outcomes include a natural HCI application based on Kinect and Leap Motion.
