Direction-of-arrival estimation in non-stationary noise

Project Code: CECS_945

This project is available at the following levels:
Summer Scholar
Please note that this project is only for undergraduate students.

Keywords:

direction-of-arrival, array signal processing, wideband

Supervisors:

Ms Pei Hua Leong
Professor Thushara Abhayapala

Outline:

Array signal processing is used in several application areas such as radar, sonar, seismology, acoustics, and medical imaging. A modal preprocessing step has recently been proposed for wideband signals received at a sensor array with the assumption that the signals are corrupted with additive white noise. The direction of the signals are then estimated after the modal preprocessing step. In this project, the student will investigate the effect of non-stationary noise, for example sea clutter to the performance of the modal preprocessor.

Requirements/Prerequisites

The candidate should have a strong mathematical background and excellent programming skills.

Student Gain

The student will gain insight into advanced array signal processing methods and their applications to defined problems.
