Evaluation of 3D sound field reproduction using circular loudspeaker arrays

Project Code: CECS_946

This project is available at the following levels:
Summer Scholar
Please note that this project is only for undergraduate students.

Keywords:

Audio, signal processing, sound field

Supervisors:

Professor Thushara Abhayapala
Dr Wen Zhang
Mr Hanchi Chen

Outline:

Reproduction of a 3D sound field can be performed using a certain amount of loudspeakers placed in a spherical manner, however due to practical limitations, it is difficuld and sometimes unnecessary to use such an amount of loudspeakers. The student will design and evaluate the performance of a sound field reproduction system that has a reduced amount loudspeakers.

Goals of this project

1. design a loudspeaker array configuration suitable for sound field reproduction.
2. evaluate the performance of the array system using MATLAB simulations.

Requirements/Prerequisites

Familiar with MATLAB; decent knowledge in signal processing.

Student Gain

Student will learn skills techniques on audio signal processing, as well as improve their skills with MATLAB.
