Power control games for wireless ad-hoc network communications

Project Code: CECS_958

This project is available at the following levels:
Summer Scholar
Please note that this project is only for undergraduate students.

Keywords:

Game theory, power control, wireless communications, ad-hoc networks

Supervisor:

Dr David Smith

Outline:

The use of game theory, and games, can be a powerful analysis and design tool in many disciplines, including economics, biology, computing science and telecommunications. This project will investigate games for controlling radio transmit power of many distributed wireless devices, particularly for decentralised ad-hoc communications networks where device lifetime and minimising radio interference is very important.

Goals of this project

1. Investigate and understand non-cooperative game theory, particularly applied to wireless communications.
2. Design, and analyse, transmit power control for wireless ad-hoc networks, theoretically, and by simulation using MATLAB.

Requirements/Prerequisites

Some background in wireless communications would be useful, some skills in mathematics, as well as knowledge in MATLAB would be helpful.

Student Gain

1. Broadening understanding in wireless communications.
2. Developing analysis and design skills in the exciting area of game theory.
3. Gaining good cross-disciplinary skills, applying game theory to an important problem for wireless communications.
