Development of 3G Arduino Data Logger for Solar Energy Inverters

Project Code: CECS_971

This project is available at the following levels:
Engn4200, Honours
Please note that this project is only for undergraduate students.

Keywords:

Arduino, Solar Energy, Photovoltaics, Programming, Software, Communications, Engineering, 3G, Mobile, Distributed, Remote Sensing, Data, Open Source, Hacking, Forecasting

Supervisor:

Mr Nicholas Engerer

Outline:

This project is a follow on project to one currently being completed. An ENGN 4200 Honours Student has completed a project developing a 3G data logger which can SMS timestamped power output/energy generation from an SMA SunnyBoy 1600TL inverter.

This project will continue this work, extending its communications capabilities (to GPRS) and create Arduino based communications protocols to at least 6 other inverter types:

- SMA SB2500HF
- Eversolar TL1500
- Samil Power 1600TL
- Suntellite SN-TL-1500
- Growatt 1500TL
- Sun King
- Delta Solvinia 2500

These inverters will be installed on the rooftop workspace area of the Engineering Building (# 32)

Goals of this project

Extend functionality of existing inverter data logger to multiple inverter types.

Requirements/Prerequisites

Experience Programming (required)
Enthusiasm, Self-motivation and Hacking-skills requested!

Student Gain

Programming experience, chance to work with Arduino devices, participation in a large solar energy forecasting grant
