Final preparation of your paper for publication

File format: The final source file for your article must be in plain TeX or LaTeX (formerly called LaTeX2e). We recommend LaTeX. The following features are no longer accepted:

LaTeX 2.09 or earlier. Such files begin with "\documentstyle ..." instead of the current command "\documentclass ...". If you need to convert a file from the old format to the new format, change "\documentstyle" to "\documentclass" and add "\usepackage{latexsym}" on the next line. Then run the file through latex and correct any problems that occur.
LaTeX style "amsart". Use the package "amsmath" instead.
AMSTeX. Instead, use LaTeX with the "amstex" package.

Dimensions and layout: The default style for a paper in this Journal has these features:

The text width is 160mm (6.3in) and the text height is 221mm (8.7in). The left and top margins are 25mm (1in) in size.
The font size is 12pt, though 11pt is also acceptable.
Each page, including the first, has a footline with the name of the journal and the page number. The footline looks like this:

The names and addresses of the authors, including e-mail addresses, appear at the start of the paper.
Also at the start of the paper are an abstract (see below), primary and secondary Mathematical Reviews Subject Numbers, and a line giving the submission and acceptance dates in this format:

Examples of how to achieve the correct layout are as follows:

The abstract: The paper should contain an abstract of principal results obtained, on the first page. When your paper is published, we will send out a notice of its publication to our subscribers. Your abstract, reproduced verbatim, will be the main content of that notice, so please take care in making the abstract informative, complete, clear, and as self-contained as possible, in order to interest subscribers in reading your paper. An abstract is primarily a listing of the new results that are obtained in the paper. Phrases like "we investigate .." or "we study ..." should be kept to a minimum in favor of "we prove that ..." or "we show that ...". An ideal abstract consists of a succinct statement of background followed by a listing of the principal new results that are to be found in the paper. Do not include equation numbers, unexpanded citations (such as "[23]"), or any other references to things in the paper that are not defined in the abstract. Remember that the abstract will be distributed without the rest of the paper so it must be entirely self-contained.
Figures: You are free to use Postscript figures in external files, but please use a standard method for including them in your article. For LaTex, use a package such as "graphics". For plain TeX, a suitable method is the package "epsf". On no account should explicit \special commands appear in your document. Figures in color are most welcome.
How to submit the files: Send your TeX file, plus any files containing figures, by e-mail to the editor who is handling your paper. If e-mail causes difficulties, contact the editor to arrange an alternative method. There is no need to send derived files such as dvi files.
