ABSTRACT:
My research is focussed on developing methods for protecting SMTP servers from DDoS attacks. This is a well understood problem for protocols such as HTTP, but little work has been done on other protocols. I started by conduction a survey of SMTP servers connected to the Internet to determine the most popular implementations, and then load tested Exim. The next step is to prototype some of my proposed protections and see how well they work with test data.
