ABSTRACT:
NUMA architectures are becoming more important, particularly where processor and memory scaling are important. However, due to the added complexity, these systems are increasingly difficult to most optimally utilise.
I aim to create and characterise lightweight performance analysis tools suitable for a NUMA environment. To this end I will present my recent work on the functional NUMA profiling tool, NUMAgrind, capable of analysing the runtime behaviour of applications on user specified NUMA systems.
Our planned work with a timing aware NUMAgrind, and a backend utilising precise performance counters will be described and contrasted with the current profiling framework.
